Sourced from the heartwood of Bulnesia sarmientoi harvested in the Gran Chaco forests of Paraguay and northern Argentina, this essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of aged wood. Its composition is rich in guaiol and bulnesol, contributing to its dense, smoky, and balsamic profile. The opening is subdued due to low volatility, gradually developing into a rich woody base with tar-like, slightly leathery undertones. Its diffusion is soft but persistent, with excellent tenacity in the drydown. The profile is enveloping and textured rather than expansive. In perfumery, guaiac wood functions as a fixative and base enhancer, adding depth, warmth, and longevity to smoky, woody, leather, and incense accords while reinforcing structural stability.
